Membership in NTRID is open to anyone
interested in sign language interpreting. All you need is a desire to
maintain or improve your skills, or simply a wish to know more about interpreting.
There is no requirement for any specific skill level -- we have members
who are experienced professional interpreters, members just beginning to
learn to interpret, and folks at different skill levels in between.
For your annual payment of $30.00, you become a member of NTRID and the
state chapter (TRID) of the National
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
Annual dues are paid in January of each year, regardless of when a new
member has joined in his/her first year. Although we certainly hope all members
will attend as many meetings as possible because we learn a great deal
from one another, there is no requirement to attend any certain number of
meetings.
Likewise, while we encourage and support anyone who wishes to become a
certified interpreter, your membership does not require you to do so.
Once you're a member, you get the little things like the
"munchies" we provide at every meeting, and you get larger
benefits like discounts on registration for workshops -- for
example, NTRID members paid only $5 to register for a workshop on
interpreter issues in codependency within the deaf community with its
included lunch (we like to eat!), while non-members paid up to $25.
Of course, there are also the benefits of association with other
interpreters as well as the informal training sessions we hold at many of
our regular meetings.
There's now a special
benefit to your NTRID membership! New members will be asked to supply us with the name
of the NTRID member who referred or recruited them (if applicable). When
the new member's dues are paid, the recruiting member will receive a
"coupon" for $5.00 off his/her NTRID dues the next year. Each
NTRID member can receive this discount for up to three new members a year,
saving as much as $15.00 on the next year's dues -- that's 50% off!
Two
simple rules: (1) The new member must be someone who has either never belonged
to NTRID or who, if previously a member, has gone at least a year without
membership. And (2) any member who receives a coupon for the $5.00 discount
is responsible him/herself for keeping that coupon, which must be
presented at the same time s/he pays the next year's dues. That's it! If
